Sarnia Hood Cleaning is the business behind every job booked through this website or by phone, and these terms set out how that work runs: what a quote covers, what the signed certificate says and does not say, what you arrange before the crew arrives, which work is in scope, and how payment, cancellation and liability are handled. This page is not a contract on its own. The written quote for your kitchen is the agreement, and where the quote and this page differ, the quote wins. Ontario law applies. 1. What a quote covers
A larger system starts with a free walk-through. The crew looks at each canopy, the filters, the plenum, the duct route and access panels, the rooftop fan and the way up to the roof. Nothing is cleaned or charged on a walk-through.
You get a written quote back within 24 hours. It names each canopy, the filters, the plenum, every duct section to be reached and the fan, with one price for that scope. Extra items, such as a hinge kit, rooftop grease containment, a fan repair or degreasing of the cooking line, each sit on their own line with their own price. The invoice follows the quote and adds nothing you did not approve in writing.
A quote holds until the date printed on it. If your menu, hours or cooking equipment change before then, ask for a new quote, because the scope may have changed too.
The prices on this site, from $585 per visit for a single-hood kitchen up to ten feet and from $995 per visit for a multi-hood kitchen of two to four canopies, are starting points for typical systems. They are not an offer for your kitchen. Larger systems are quoted on site after a free walk-through. Fan repair, solid-fuel appliances and line degreasing are quoted per job after inspection.
If a section turns out to be corroded, blocked or unsafe, work on it stops until you are contacted.
2. What the certificate asserts, and what it does not
After a completed visit you receive a signed health and safety certificate referencing the published NFPA 96 standard, plus before-and-after photographs of every cleaned surface. The certificate lists the sections cleaned and the date. It also names any section that was not reached and why.
The certificate is not three things:
- Not a credential. Sarnia Hood Cleaning references the published NFPA 96 standard and is not affiliated with NFPA. No NFPA 96 certification exists for a company or a technician, and the certificate does not claim one.
- Not a fire inspection. In Sarnia, fire prevention officers with Sarnia Fire Rescue Services inspect commercial buildings and enforce the Ontario Fire Code. Point Edward, St. Clair Township, Petrolia, Plympton-Wyoming and Lambton Shores each have their own fire department. The certificate is a contractor's record an inspector may ask to see. It does not replace their inspection.
- Not an approval. It does not promise that your premises will pass a fire inspection or a Lambton Public Health inspection.
The Ontario Fire Code references NFPA 96, and cleaning at the published interval is one part of meeting it. Keeping records, servicing the fire suppression system and running the kitchen safely between visits stay with you. The NFPA 96 guide explains the standard and its cleaning intervals.
3. Site access, safety and the roof
Before work starts you receive proof of WSIB coverage and liability insurance. Your landlord gets it too when the roof is involved. The crew covers the cooking line and protects the floor under the hood before spraying anything.
What you provide. Entry at the agreed time, a cooking line that is off and cool, and food put away or covered. When the fan is in scope, power to the fan is shut off at its disconnect by you or your electrician before the crew goes up.
Roof access. The fan cannot be cleaned or repaired from inside the kitchen. You arrange the roof hatch, ladder or lift, and any key or lockbox code, before the visit. In a plaza or shared building the landlord or property manager usually has to agree, and getting that agreement is your job.
Plant sites. A cafeteria or staff kitchen inside an industrial site along the St. Clair River industrial corridor runs under that site's own rules. Tell us at booking about safety orientation, contractor sign-in, permits to work, required protective equipment and escort rules. The crew follows the site's rules, and the visit is booked around orientation times and shutdown schedules.
Scheduling. Visits run overnight or between services, so your kitchen keeps cooking.
Cancellation and rescheduling. Both sides give reasonable notice. The only cancellation charge is the one printed on your quote. A visit Sarnia Hood Cleaning cannot keep, whether for wind or ice on a Lake Huron shoreline roof or any other reason, is rebooked at no charge.
4. Scope of work
In scope when it appears on your quote:
- Hood cleaning: canopy, filters, plenum and exterior
- Kitchen exhaust cleaning: horizontal duct, riser, access panels and the fan
- Exhaust fan repair and installation, exhaust fan hinge kit installation and rooftop grease containment
- Fire-prevention degreasing of the cooking line: fryers, ranges, griddles, charbroilers and the surfaces around the hood
Out of scope on every job, whatever else the quote says:
- Building HVAC and air duct cleaning
- Coil cleaning and dryer vent cleaning
- Janitorial and office cleaning
- Pressure washing and odour removal
- Gas fitting, electrical work and roofing
- Fire suppression system servicing
- Grease interceptor pumping
If one of the excluded items turns out to be the real problem, you are told and it is left to the right trade. The services page matches a problem to the right in-scope service.
5. Payment, photographs, liability and governing law
Payment. The invoice matches the accepted quote plus anything you approved in writing during or after the visit. Payment is due on completion unless you agreed another arrangement in writing before booking. The certificate and photographs come with the invoice.
Photographs. The before-and-after photographs are part of the visit record and go to you with the certificate. Sarnia Hood Cleaning keeps a copy so the certificate can be reissued. Photographs are never published with your business name without your written permission.
Limitation of liability. Damage that exists before the visit, such as a corroded duct, a cracked fan curb or a worn roof membrane, is photographed before work begins and is not the responsibility of Sarnia Hood Cleaning. Except where Ontario law does not allow such a limit, liability for any claim arising from a visit is capped at the amount invoiced for that visit. No liability is accepted for lost business, for the outcome of a third-party inspection, or for a condition you knew about and did not mention.
Governing law. These terms and every job done under them are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute is heard in Ontario.

Terms of service: frequently asked questions
Does the certificate mean the fire department has approved my kitchen?
The certificate is not an approval from Sarnia Fire Rescue Services or any other Lambton fire department. It records that the named parts of your exhaust system were cleaned on a stated date, with reference to the published NFPA 96 standard. A fire inspection covers the whole building and is done by the fire department.
Are hinge kits and fan repairs done on the same visit?
Hinge kits, fan repairs and rooftop grease containment are done on the same visit when they appear on your quote. Each one is priced per job after inspection and listed on its own line, so you approve it separately from the cleaning.
What happens if the crew cannot reach the roof?
Everything reachable from inside the kitchen is cleaned, and the certificate records the fan as not reached. A return visit is booked once you have arranged access. Roof access and keys stay your responsibility.
How does a visit work at a plant site with its own safety rules?
A plant site visit follows the site's own orientation, sign-in and permit-to-work rules. Tell us about them when you book so the crew arrives prepared and the visit fits around orientation times and any shutdown.
What work does Sarnia Hood Cleaning not take on?
Sarnia Hood Cleaning does not take on HVAC or air duct cleaning, coil or dryer vent cleaning, janitorial or office cleaning, pressure washing, odour removal, gas fitting, electrical work, roofing, fire suppression servicing or grease interceptor pumping. Those go to the right trade.
